Descubre Video Program

Three separate video programs provide linguistic and cultural input:
  • The Fotonovela Video

Closely and distinctively integrated with the textbook in each lesson's Fotonovela and Estructura sections, these specially shot video segments provided approximately five minutes of footage for each of the textbook's nine lessons. They present the adventures of four college students who are studying at the Universidad de San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador. They each decide to spend their vacation break on a bus tour of the Ecuadorian countryside with the ultimate goal of hiking up a volcano. The video, shot in various locations in Ecuador, tells their story and the story of Don Francisco, the tour bus driver who accompanies them.

Each video module depicts the characters interacting within the context of the corresponding lesson's theme, using the vocabulary and grammar taught in that lesson of the textbook. As the video progresses, the live segments carefully combine new vocabulary and grammar with previously taught language.

  • Flash cultura

The thematically based Flash cultura program expands on the content presented in the new Cultura section of the textbook using a newscast format.

  • The Film Collection

Fully integrated with the textbook, the DESCUBRE, Level 3, film collection contains short-subject films by Hispanic filmmakers that are the basis for the pre- , while- , and post-viewing activities in the Cinemateca section of each lesson. These films offer entertaining and thought-provoking opportunities to build students' listening comprehension skills and cultural knowledge of Spanish speakers and the Spanish-speaking world.

Besides providing entertainment, the films serve as a useful learning tool. As students watch the films, they will observe characters interacting in various situations, using real-world language that reflects the lesson themes as well as the vocabulary and grammar they are studying.
